Mwimbi University started to operate in January 2018 as Mwimbi institute of Technology and Education until 2021 when the institute was, upgraded to a university. Mwimbi University is one of the latest innovations Universities, which facilitate online delivery of high quality certificates, diplomas, and degrees programmes to learners in various parts of the country, the East African region, the Central African region, the southern African region and beyond. Mwimbi University is indeed in the lead in pioneering the use of modern technologies to not only realise equitable access to higher education through e learning but also improve the quality of educational experience for our learners. The University has the e-campus, which is, modeled around a web-based Learning Management System (LMS), electronic community and administrative centers for students and faculties. All programmes offered at the e-Campus are primarily, delivered through the internet, with students taking online-campus examinations at the end of each Semester. The university has plans of having a physical campus by the year 2025, in order to facilitate the in person classes for local students.
